Where to look for lost car keys

Most lost keys aren't lost. Before you replace them, check these.

Short answer
  • Inside the car: trunk, under seats, door pockets.
  • At home: couch cushions, laundry, the fridge, kids' toys.
  • Out: the store counter, restroom, gym locker, restaurant table.
  • Give it 20 minutes, then fix the problem instead of searching more.

In the car

  • Trunk, especially after unloading groceries
  • Between seat and console
  • Door pockets and sun visors
  • In the ignition, if it's a turn key

At home

  • Couch cushions and under furniture
  • Coat and laundry pockets
  • Next to the fridge or pantry
  • Kids' backpacks and toy boxes

Out

  • Checkout counters and carts
  • Restrooms
  • Gym lockers and front desks
  • The parking spot itself
