Keys stolen? Make them useless today.
A stolen key with your address nearby is a car waiting to disappear. The fix is to remove that key from the car's memory and program a new one, and it can be done the same day.
- No original key needed
- No tow
- Lost keys erased
- Erase the stolen key from the car so it no longer starts it.
- Get a new key made at the car the same visit.
- Report the theft to the police if a bag, wallet or home keys went too.
- Consider rekeying the door lock if the blade could still open the door.
- Ask your insurer whether keys are covered under your policy.
What erasing does
Modern cars keep a list of the chip keys they accept. When we program your new key, we clear that list first, so the stolen key's chip is no longer recognized and the engine won't start with it.
What erasing doesn't do
On many cars the metal blade of the stolen key can still open the door by hand. If that worries you, the door lock cylinder can be rekeyed so the old blade no longer turns it. Ask us; on some cars it's straightforward, on others it isn't worth it.
Do this today
- Move the car somewhere you can watch, if you can.
- Text us the year, make, model and location.
- File a police report if other items were taken.
- Call your insurer about the keys.
Questions about this
Will the stolen key still start my car?
Not after we erase it and program the new key.
Can the thief still open the door?
With the metal blade, on some cars, yes. Rekeying the door lock solves that.
